Ballajura Parish Mary MacKillop Church has been blessed with a new statue of the Virgin Mary, titled ‘Our Lady of Ballajura, Comforter of Migrants’ with Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe inviting all Christians to have her words ‘Do whatever he tells you’ emblazoned on their heart.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary of the Our Lady of the Rosary Church of Doubleview Parish, Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB explained that the parish, under the care of the Dominican friars, has been striving to live in communion with the Lord and His Church, and was coming together to celebrate all the ways in which the community has been faithful to this call.
Members of Perth’s school and parish communities, especially any who have a past association with Doubleview, are warmly invited to attend any of the upcoming as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.
The faith formation and social education session at St Mary’s Cathedral saw 17 participants enjoy a morning tea while learning about the church response to modern slavery and what they could do as individuals to assist.
“We Catholics believe, that is, we know with the certainty of our faith, that in Jesus we have so much more than a really good man who lived a wonderful life and left us a remarkable legacy and a powerful teaching,” said Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, speaking on Palm Sunday, 2 April.
Ukrainian Catholics will now no longer celebrate Christmas on 7 January but join Roman Catholics on 25 December. The move follows resolutions promulgated by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk on 6 February.

The Church, writes Senator Smith and Prof Ogilvie, is at the forefront of relief efforts for the immediate needs of Ukrainians, but it is also there for the long term good of the people and advancement of Ukrainian culture.
An anti-slavery project was launched at St Mary’s Cathedral last Saturday 11 February and will run until the end of the year, which will include a review of procurement policies and practises as well as faith formation and social education sessions.
