Catholic school families make significant contribution to Western Australia

Catholic Education Western Australia is made up of 158 Catholic schools in Western Australia, educating more than 74,000 students, not just in metropolitan areas but in some of the most remote places in the State.

What’s more is that those numbers place CEWA as one of the largest employers in Western Australia, alongside household names in the mining sector and other
well-known large retail groups.

Perth Catholics come together to support Ukraine

Ukrainian Parish Priest Fr Ihor Holovko spoke of the deep sadness of his people and the horror which is being visited upon them during Ash Wednesday Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral.

Hundreds gathered for a community prayer service on Sunday 6 March, led by the Ukrainian Association of WA Inc and Archbishop Costelloe composed a prayer, encouraging Perth Catholics to pray for peace.

Vietnamese Catholics celebrate 40 years of WA presence

It was in the late 70s right through to the early 90’s that thousands of Vietnamese people – many of them refugees who had risked their lives to flee the country by boat – commenced arriving in Perth, Western Australia.
Many of the refugees were housed by the Government at Graylands Hostel for a short period, in the meantime learning English in addition as how to adapt to a new society and culture.

Celebrating 20 Years: Bishop Don Sproxton marks anniversary of Episcopal Ordination

Perth Auxiliary Bishop Don Sproxton has recalled the phone call he received in December 2001 to appoint him as a Bishop. The then Mirrabooka Parish Priest had just returned home when he took the call from Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Francesco Canalini.

“I remember the Nuncio saying to me, ‘I can understand you would be surprised and perhaps a little fearful, as we [fellow bishops] all have been ourselves.

“’The Lord will help you and give you what you need,’ were his exact words.”
