Ordained priest in Melbourne in September 1987, new Hobart Archbishop Tony Ireland grew up in Melbourne’s inner south and studied at the Corpus Christi Seminary College.

The Hobart Archdiocese has last week celebrated the ordination to the diaconate of Perth born Br John Joseph LEB from the Little Eucharistic Brothers of Divine Will.
His day of ordination belonged to the Church, the newly ordained deacon emphasised in his address after Mass, thanking the many who had been involved in his journey from its very beginning in Perth, Western Australia.

The Hobart Cathedral closed on 4 July 2022 to allow much-needed restoration to commence. Hobart Archbishop Julian Porteous announced this week that the Cathedral will remain closed until early December, two months later than originally thought, to further advance restoration work.
