This is the final article by Peter Wilkinson in the series looking at the various particular councils (provincial and plenary) convened by the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in Australia between 1844 and 1937. It examines the First Provincial Council of Melbourne held in Melbourne from 17-24 November 1907.

New Norcia Parish has last month blessed the newly installed ‘Rock of Remembrance’ – an interactive memorial in honour of those who experienced any form of neglect or abuse – following Sunday Mass on 25 October.

Members of SACRI, a Catechetical association of the Christ’s lay faithful and dedicated to ‘Mary, Mother of the Church’, celebrated the feast of Christ the King at Our Lady’s Shrine, Bullsbrook Parish, on Sunday 22 November.

Gathering in the name of Jesus, more than 350 worshippers congregated for Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral on Sunday 4 October to witness the commissioning of 12 local delegates who have the privilege of representing the Archdiocese of Perth in the upcoming Plenary Council as representatives of religious congregations and other Church bodies.

Though at first glance the grass is long and the grounds are quiet, as Sister Lourdes Chitra Justin OSM leads the way through to the big shaded play area at the back of the Kora Centre, the sounds of little children happily talking and laughing as they eat a hot, nutritious meal can be heard and four smiling faces beam up at us from around the table.

It is a word used to describe many forms of associations and groupings in our society today. Is it possible that the concept of community will be altered as a result and its rich meaning diluted?

At a time when all of humanity have been called to unite in a common cause, our Catholic school communities have witnessed the tremendous resilience and creativity of the human spirit and the significance of purposeful mission and service.
