Following the celebrations of Identitywa’s 40th anniversary, there was much to celebrate at another shared living house through its Supported Living Service – the blessing of a new home for seven housemates.
The blessing has become a tradition at Identitywa, and on this occasion, Father Nino Vinciguerra was invited to bless the home with the housemates reading the prayers of intercession.
The seven housemates then hosted a special afternoon tea for their family members and support staff after the blessings.
Manager of Services, Lee-Anne Brenssell, thanked everyone involved and acknowledged the work that had been undertaken over the past twelve months to improve the home and gardens.
New staff member and house senior, Jenny said she has been really impressed by how happy and busy everyone is.
“The people sharing the house are all encouraged to contribute in the day-to-day tasks of running a home. They are also actively supported to connect in all sorts of activities in the community which is wonderful,” Jenny said.

One of the seven housemate, John said that he really enjoys living in the shared living house.
“I like having my own place. The staff support me to do things in the community and take me to my favourite things like horse riding and playing sport,” John said.
The event was a great success with everyone really enjoying the chance to look around and to share in the festivities.

Identitywa 40th anniversary launches special souvenir edition of Identikite magazine
Identitywa recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of providing quality support to people living with disability and their families with a special souvenir edition of their triennial magazine, Identikite, which showcased success stories of the people they support as well as the latest developments of the organisation.
The souvenir edition of the publication invited people they support, their families as well as staff and board members to share their experiences of being part of Identitywa.
Identitywa CEO Marina Re said their contributions were a true testament to how important the support Identitywa offers is to the community.
“It was an amazing experience gathering the forty stories included in our 40th anniversary edition of our magazine, Identikite. It was very humbling to read all of their contributions.
“As an agency of the Archdiocese of Perth we are blessed with many supporters who believe in our mission and work with us in partnership to ensure the continued success of Identitywa,” Ms Re said.
Through its Supported Living Service, Identitywa has 36 shared living houses located throughout Perth suburbs which are the home for 144 house mates. A place to call home, the shared living service offers individuals the opportunity to live the life they want to lead. The team works in partnership with individuals and families to support people to move into a home that best suits their needs, wishes and circumstances.
