Emeritus Archbishop Barry Hickey will next week launch the Journey Into Truth DVD and book set narrated by Sydney-based priest Father John Flader.

The launch will be held at the St Mary’s Cathedral Parish Centre on Friday 10 August at 7pm.

Journey Into Truth is a set of DVDs providing instructions into the Catholic faith, with 24 half-hour talks based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, together with an accompanying book with the full text of the talks.

In 2008, Archbishop Hickey launched Fr Flader’s Question Time 1 in Perth – the first volume of 150 questions and answers on the Catholic faith from the latter’s weekly column in The Record and The Catholic Weekly respective newspapers.

“It is a great honour to have His Grace launch Journey Into Truth and Question Time 4. He is an outstanding, highly respected, bishop and this added to my joy when he agreed to do the launch,” Fr Flader said.

Since Journey Into Faith launched in Sydney four years ago, Fr Flader has found that the program is being used in a wide variety of methods.

The informative materials are ideal for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults groups, adult faith formation, youth groups, schools, and families.

The process of coming to know the Catholic faith and grow in the practice of it, he said, is “very much like a journey that lasts a lifetime”.

“Whether someone comes into the Church as an adult or has grown up in it from childhood. It is a journey with a clearly marked goal, a goal which is never fully reached but toward which one constantly moves. The goal is the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith,” Fr Flader concluded.

During Holy Week 2014, Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, described Fr Flader’s Journey into Truth as “a very good place to start for anyone wanting to obtain the full measure of knowledge of God”.

“I highly recommend Fr Flader’s book for study and discussion. It is an important contribution to that new evangelisation which the popes have called us to since the Second Vatican Council – a fresh presentation of the Gospel to formerly or formally Christian cultures, institutions and individuals,” Archbishop Fisher stated.

“I pray that it will be disseminated and used widely. And I thank the author for his great fidelity to God and service to his people.”

Journey Into Faith is distributed by St Joseph Communication and screened by the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
