Broken Bay Institute (BBI), the Australian Institute of Theological Education is proud to announce the appointment of the internationally recognised expert on Vatican II and the leadership of Pope Francis, Massimo Faggioli as a Conjoint Professor.
Based at Villanova University in the USA, Professor Faggioli is a world authority on the history and administrative inner workings of the Catholic Church and is the Contributing Editor to the prestigious American journal, Commonweal.
He has also been a guest lecturer at BBI on a number of occasions, including teaching an academic unit this year, LEAD802 – Leading for Mission and Catholic Identity: Insights from Vatican II.
BBI’s CEO and Principal, Dr Gerard Goldman said, “Our students and faculty staff have benefited greatly from Professor Faggioli’s contribution, which will continue to grow in his new role as Conjoint Professor, allowing us to draw upon his international expertise on a more regular basis.”
Professor Faggioli undertook an Australian tour in July 2017 which featured professional seminars with school teachers, the Catholic health sector and religious congregations across NSW, VIC and SA. He was also a presenter at BBI’s eConference in August on the theme – Gospel Leadership in Times of Chaos: the Hope of Pope Francis.
The leading theologian said he was looking forward to working more closely with BBI in the future.
“I’m delighted with this new appointment since BBI is very much at the forefront of online theological education in the Asia-Pacific region, both in higher education and professional development and I am looking forward to contributing to the ongoing success of BBI across teaching and research,” Professor Faggioli said.
The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Villanova University, Professor Adele Lindenmeyr congratulated Massimo Faggioli on his appointment, saying it greatly would benefit both institutions.
“This prestigious appointment represents a wonderful opportunity for productive collaborations between Professor Faggioli and BBI’s faculty and students,” Professor Lindenmeyr said.
BBI Board Director and nationally respected theologian, Professor Maryanne Confoy RSC praised Professor Faggioli’s new appointment, saying it would greatly enrich the breadth and depth of BBI’s academic offerings.
“Professor Faggioli’s diverse writings on the Church, religion and Church Governance along with his academic presence will bring a global dimension to the community of BBI,” Professor Confoy added.
