Kolbe Catholic College has beaten last year’s fundraising total for its “World’s Greatest Shave” campaign.

The Year 12 student leaders were guided by Sinead Holmes to co-ordinate this year’s fundraiser, with the initial target of $15,000 lifted, after surpassing expectations.

Sinead said she wanted to beat last year’s total of $14,000 and set a modest fundraising goal of $15,000.

“After we started to get close to our initial goal, we lifted it to $20,000,” she said.

“It felt so amazing to go over it and beat last year’s grand total.”

The Year 12 student said after taking part in the cause last year, she wanted to organise it in 2018 to ensure the tradition continued.

“I’ve had family friends affected by cancer and it’s such a good cause as it’s helping other people.

“I really want it to be followed through each year and I hope a current Year 11 student will pick it up next year.”

Some of the Rockingham school-wide fundraisers included a bake sale, a sausage sizzle on the day, and the selling of ribbons in conjunction with the Year 8 Challenge Based Learning students.

Sinead said she was surprised with the amount of students who got on board with the cause to either shave or chop their hair.

“We had four Year 12 girls who shaved their head and that’s amazing,” she said.

“We had over 50 people in total participate which was way more than the 30 I expected.”

Her aim is to have the World’s Greatest Shave become an important part of the Kolbe Catholic College calendar.

“Advice I would give to the person who chooses to organise it next year is to work with the Year 12 leaders as you will need help,” she said.

“You need lots of communication so make sure you co-ordinate with the head of year.”
