Major work on the floor of St Mary’s Cathedral will commence next week.

Cathedral Manager Tony Meyrick has this week revealed to The Record that the upgrades will take approximately five weeks.

It’s the first time the floors have been re-sanded and re-stained since the re-opening of the Cathedral in 2009.

Mr Meyrick advised that current advice states that the new floor will be ready at the end of May.

Depending on the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cathedral can then re-open.

The major project has been brought forward because of the COVID-19 pandemic, to minimise inconvenience to parishioners.

Churches across the Archdiocese and the country are currently closed due to Government restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
