The Sisters of Mercy were given a first-hand look at the transformation of the buildings which were originally home to St Brigid’s School founded by them in July 1888.

Identitywa hosted a special morning tea for the Sisters of Mercy at the beginning of the month on 6 July to inform the Sisters about their outreach.

During the tour of the buildings at West Perth, Identitywa Chief Executive Marina Re and Manager Services Lee-Anne Brensell collaborated to show how it had been modifying to accommodate Identitywa’s corporate base.

Identitywa informed the refurbishment was funded by Lotterywest and City of Perth grants and carried out to “create office space, meeting rooms, and a state-of-the-art training facility”.

“Our founder, Catherine McAuley, would be so pleased to see the great Mercy work you are all continuing to do here,” Sr Carmel said.

The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the significant contribution the Sisters have made to the history of WA.

Marina Re said it was a delight to host the Sisters and to celebrate a new purpose for the former St Brigid’s School.

“Identitywa owes a great deal to the Sisters of Mercy, in particular to Sister Maureen McCarthy RSM, who made a significant contribution in the early days of our agency,” she said.

“Sr Maureen made things happen, aided by the generosity of her Order and the understanding and support of the Archbishop.

“It is wonderful that we still have a strong relationship and we look forward to continuing this into the future,” she concluded.
