From 6-10 January, the beautiful natural surroundings of Nanga Bush Camp in Dwellingup played host to the annual WA Young Salesian Summer Camp.

This beloved tradition, now in its 37th year since its inception in 1989, continues to offer young people an enriching experience filled with faith, friendship, and fun.

From team-building exercises to outdoor adventures, the week was packed with opportunities for personal growth and connection.

In addition to the traditional Salesian Goodnights which provided reflective moments and spiritual guidance to end each day on a meaningful note, we were blessed to have Fr Pavol Herda and Fr Mark Baumgarten join us during the camp, celebrating Mass on Monday and Thursday.

Following the philosophy and charism of Don Bosco, the camp became a home away from home for many participants. It was a place where lasting friendships were formed, echoing Don Bosco’s belief in the power of community and establishing positive relationships.

This year, camp coordinator Graham Maher celebrated his 10th Anniversary as coordinator with more than 90 campers and 30 leaders and volunteers participating, making it a special one to remember.

As we celebrate some three decades of growth, we look forward to exciting times ahead as this year, we will be rebranding the camp, which will include a new name and a slightly different look going forward into our 2026 Summer Camp.

The WA Young Salesian Summer Camp is more than just a retreat; it’s a journey of faith and fellowship that leaves an incredible mark on all who attend. We eagerly anticipate the next chapter in this inspiring tradition.
