A visual, musical and scripture-based reflection modelled on a 19th-century English ceremony will be presented on Tuesday, 2 December at St Thomas the Apostle parish in Claremont in preparation for Advent and Christmas.
The Road to Bethlehem has been drawing crowds to the parish for the past five years and organisers are once again anticipating an enthusiastic response.
“The event has been immensely popular,” said event co-ordinator Silvia Kinder, “and this year we are wanting to attract more families along and be able to provide an opportunity for both adults and children to reflect more deeply on the true meaning of Christmas.”
Based on the traditional ceremony of nine readings and carols and inspired by former Archbishop of Canterbury Edward Benson, Ms Kinder said the presentation at Claremont would outline Christ’s journey from his incarnation to resurrection with the aid of scripture, music and images.
The event, which will last for more than an hour, will involve nine stages, each incorporating a scripture reading and carols sung by the parish choir.
Ms Kinder said she hopes this format, along with the beautiful images that will be displayed on a screen, will create an atmosphere conducive to spiritual reflection for all ages.
“We will be beginning the presentation earlier this year to make it more convenient for families,” Ms Kinder said.
“And we are encouraging people to arrive early and to bring a cushion with them, so they can make the most of this wonderful evening.”
The event begins at 7pm and tickets are free.
