Student of Law and Behavioural Science at the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA), Amy Bradley, was the proud recipient of the Catholic Women’s League 2015 scholarship – a grant of $3,000 aimed at assisting meritorious female students pursue their tertiary studies at UNDA.
A grateful recipient of the scholarship and of the support she has received from the Catholic Women’s League, Ms Bradley has invested the funds in her education and has finally found the time to become more involved in Christian Service work within the Fremantle area.
In a letter sent to the Catholic Women’s League WA (CWLWA) in December 2015, Ms Bradley expressed her gratitude to the organisation that has permitted her to focus less on part-time work and more on her law studies.
“To have been the recipient of the Catholic Women’s League Scholarship 2015 has affected my life immensely beyond the financial support offered,” she wrote in the December issue of CWLWA’s newsletter, Western Tidings.
“Firstly, it has enabled me to work towards the realisation of my academic and professional aspirations. As I finish my second year, I know that without the award this year would have looked very different. I would not have been so involved in the university due to working commitments. As I have not needed to increase my working hours, I have been able to work hard for the overall distinction grade in all of my first semester units.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you [CWLWA] for your generosity in having awarded me this scholarship; I am entirely grateful and so appreciative as I have always wanted to be a lawyer – this is my passion and dream,” Ms Bradley added.
There is more to Ms Bradley’s repertoire of accomplishments than her latest scholarship win.
Ms Bradley completed her schooling at Geraldton Grammar School, emerging as a strong leader and role model for those who surrounded her.
During her time at Geraldton Grammar, she helped raise funds for the establishment of a school in Nepal with the help of her teachers, the deputy principal and the principal.
Together, the group organised an “Around the World Day”, held bake sales and cupcake days, lunchtime concerts and other fundraising activities in order to raise money for the school.
Ms Bradley eventually travelled to Nepal, using the money she had helped raise to replace a number of tin roofs and establish pumps to provide running water for both the school and the Nepalese village.
In the words of Geraldton Catholic Women’s League President, Jan Bowen, “Amy is a worthy recipient of the Scholarship and a wonderful young ambassador for the Catholic Women’s League.”
