Preparations are now well under way for the Monsignor Hawes Heritage Tour from Geraldton to Mullewa on Saturday, 15 August.
The tour will take a close look at the San Spirito Cemetery Chapel, Utakarra, the Monsignor Hawes Heritage Walk, Mullewa, the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saints Peter and Paul, Mullewa, the Hawes-designed tombstones in the Mullewa Pioneer Cemetery, Mass Rock, Mullewa and St James’ Chapel, Kojarena.
Tour guide, Father Robert Cross, said the built heritage of Monsignor Hawes will no doubt be complemented by a marvellous display of nature’s wildflowers which should be in their full glory by mid-August.
“A feature of this year’s tour will be the celebration of Mass at San Spirito Chapel in Utakarra which will include Gregorian chant music,” Fr Cross said.
“The Gregorian chant will make the Mass an unforgettable and truly spiritually uplifting experience, setting the tone for the rest of the tour,” he said.
Fr Cross went on to say that participants will be provided with bus transport, morning tea, lunch, drinks and expert commentary for an unbelievable cost of $100.
The tour bus will depart at 8.15am from the Bishop’s House carpark located at 7 Maitland Street, and will return to Geraldton around 5pm.
Seats are limited to 40 and tickets are available from the Bishop’s House, 7 Maitland St, Geraldton, or the Visitor Information Centre, 246 Marine Terrace, Geraldton.
