Plenary Council Member Introduction – Sr Mary Ryan OP

We are pleased to introduce to you, Congregational Leader of the Dominican Sisters Western Australia, Sr Mary Ryan OP.

Originally hailing from Perth, Sr Mary began her career in Catholic education as a teacher and Principal in both Primary and Secondary schools.

The next part of her career was as Director of Centacare Geraldton for 25 years, working in administration and as a registered Psychologist, working with children as well as with couples preparing for marriage.

Sr Mary is a member of ACRATH and the Catholic Development Fund in Perth and a member of the Chisholm Catholic College Advisory Board.

As a member of the Dominican Sisters, Sr Mary has been involved with Social Justice issues for many years and has been a representative at the Dominican Asia Pacific region on numerous occasions visiting the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Salamanca in Spain.

Sr Mary explained these have been privileged occasions learning about the resilience and faith of people who are extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged in so many ways.

Sr Mary was elected the Leader of the Dominican Sisters of Western Australia in August 2019.
