Trinity College hosted its inaugural International Women’s Day Breakfast at McCabe Court on Thursday 7 March 2019.
About 180 attendees heard from two guest speakers: Amanda Cox, CFO and General Manager of West Coast Eagles Football Club; and Trinity College class of ’81 Old Boy, Chris Sutherland, Managing Director of Programmed.
The purpose of the breakfast was to recognise and celebrate the many achievements of the women in and around the Trinity community, as well as educating and empowering the young men of Trinity to help forge a more gender-balanced world.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day was #BalanceforBetter.
Trinity College Principal Darren O’Neill said gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive, and hoped the breakfast helped the school’s young men to recognise this.
“We also want them to celebrate the women in their lives,” Mr O’Neill added.
“Developing good young men with a genuine respect for the dignity and worth of every person is at the core of what we seek to achieve at Trinity College; to develop in boys a deep appreciation of respectful relationships, a real examination of all matters around gender equality is vitally important.”
