Parishes, agencies and schools have once again been thrown into a COVID lockdown for the third time this year.

The four-day lockdown, from Tuesday 29 June to 12.01am Saturday 3 July has seen Church buildings close, but schools remained open.

The lockdown announcement came after an urgent update was issued requiring all within the Perth and Peel region to wear masks at 12noon on Sunday 27 June.

Private gatherings are also not permitted during the lockdown period, with visitors at home only permitted for essential services, critical maintenance, caregiving or compassionate reasons.

Visits to hospitals are prohibited except for compassionate reasons (eg end of life) and visits to aged/disability care facilities are prohibited except for essential care, compassionate reasons and end of life advocacy.

The state recorded just one new case on Wednesday, a 37-year-old man who is being interviewed by contact tracers

The first case, a 51-year-old woman who contracted the virus in Sydney, has been confirmed to have the highly contagious Delta variant of the virus.

Premier Mark McGowan announced on Thursday 1 July that 15,809 COVID-19 tests were conducted yesterday, Wednesday 30 June.

“But we cannot afford to get complacent,” he said.

“So I’m appealing to every Western Australian: We need you to get tested.

“If you’re experiencing symptoms, if you’ve been to an exposure site — even if you’ve returned a negative test and then subsequently developed symptoms — I want you to get tested again.”

The Premier is expected to make an announcement on how the state will move forward tomorrow, Friday 2 July.
