Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) has last month hosted three Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) information evenings across the Archdiocese of Perth.

Each session was conducted in three locations: northern suburbs, convened at St Luke’s Church, Woodvale Parish on 13 May, a central event at St Mary’s Cathedral on 19 May, capping off with a south of the river gathering at St Emilie De Vialar Church, Canning Vale Parish on 21 May.

More than 80 young people, parents, teachers, youth leaders, youth ambassadors, and parishioners attended the information evenings.

CYM used the informative sessions to reveal some of the keynote speakers set to headline ACYF from 8 to 10 December at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

  • Katie Prejean – a speaker, educator and author will share the joy of the Gospel with a unique blend of humour and storytelling to engage audiences of all ages.
  • Joe Melendrez – a dynamic Catholic rap artist who dedicates his talents to animate and share the Good News with young people.
  • Grace Forrest – the founder of Walk Free Foundation is a local WA speaker who will delve into her passion for social justice and encouraging young people to do the same.

The information evenings were attended by nearly 40 parishes, school and community representatives who were keen to get young people and their parishes excited about the event.

“We had an overwhelmingly positive response from 80-plus representatives across different parishes, schools and community who were super keen to get young people excited about ACYF19,” CYM Perth wrote on its Facebook page.

Registration for ACYF19 opened last month, groups are advised to start planning early as group registration will close on 12 September.

During the evening, attendees were given tips about group registration as resources were provided to help parishes, schools, and movements in promoting the event.

At the end of the event, everyone was encouraged to join the mission of the Church in getting as many young people to this life-changing event as possible.
