With more than 100 volunteers who commit some three or more hours a week, Personal Advocacy Service (PAS) honoured its volunteers last week, as part of National Volunteer Week.

PAS Executive Director Anabelle May said many of the volunteers demonstrate their dedication by volunteering for an average of seven years, with the longest being 24 years.

“Every year, we like to thank them by inviting them to an Appreciation Event that shows we value each and every one of them,” Ms May said.

This year, the organisation moved the event to coincide with National Volunteer Week and held an Autumn Soiree with the theme of Paris.

“Our resource centre transformed into an autumn evening in Paris, complete with Paris skyline, trees sparkling with fairy lights, le Café de PAS, la Barre a Jazz band and canapés.”

Some 90 volunteers attended the event, where they were treated as VIPs with French-inspired canapés and jazz band.

The fun “hit” of the night was a photo booth stocked with props that provided entertainment for all.

“Our volunteers are the foundation of our service and, without them, we would not be what we are,” Ms May said.

“It is an honour to show them they are valued and appreciated.”
