Trinity College students in East Perth attended a memorable school assembly on 28 October when they witnessed a group of Old Boys shave their heads for a good cause.
The men participated to raise money for the family of Year Nine student, Finn Allen, who, in August this year, was diagnosed with the rare condition, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, and is currently undergoing treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Finn’s father, Mike, a former Trinity College student, together with a team of friends and fellow Old Boys shaved off their hair in front of the students as part of a campaign to support the Allen family.
Mike and his wife, Kate, are both health professionals, and due to the fact that Finn has little immunity while under treatment, have had to suspend working due to the risk of infection. All while running a household and raising two other boys.
Those participating in the shave alongside Mike were; Dion Smith, Andrew Sanders, David Mackiewicz, Richard Mackiewicz, Michael Valmadre, Peter Torre (in absence – Robert Gatti, David Allen and Craig Allen) as well as the Current Head of Trinity College Junior School, Martin Tucker.
The event was part of a wider campaign supported by the College who have been raising money for the family through a variety of activities.
In the first two weeks of Term four the Junior School raised $2305 through donations, raffles, cake stalls and the selling of lollies.
In total $50,000 has been raised so far through a collective effort of a number of groups, including North Beach Football Club Year 9 team, Eagles Basketball team, Padbury Catholic Primary School, friends, family and the Trinity College community.
