New Zealand Marist priest Fr John Rea has last week Wednesday 23 May led a women-only healing prayers event.

The Disciples of Jesus Covenant Community led event was the fourth of 14 events on Fr Rea’s 2018 healing tour throughout the months of May and June.

The event began with praise and worship led by Disciples of Jesus music ministry and was followed by Fr Rea addressing the audience on how to fulfil God’s calling.

He continued by talking about stories of women in scriptures including Sara, Ruth and the Virgin Mary, emphasising their roles and how these women fulfilled God’s callings.

Speaking to The eRecord, Fr Rea said his presence in Perth was due to the invitation by Disciples of Jesus Covenant, Charismatic Renewal and Spirit of Freedom communities.

“The reason we invited him is not just for us,” Disciples of Jesus leader Reg Firth said in an interview with The eRecord.

“We aim to minister to people all over Perth, not only people who are Catholic but everyone,” he said.

Mr Firth proceeded to compliment Fr Rea for his humility and unwillingness to steal the spotlight from God.

“He is a very humble person, and he doesn’t try to promote himself. He doesn’t take the credit and always gives credit to the Lord,” Mr Firth said.

At the end of his talk, Fr Rea called for a group of women who were assigned to help him administer healing prayers to the participants.

“My job is to pray. The healing is from God. Sometimes the Lord will answer right away, sometimes He will respond differently,” Fr Rea told The eRecord.

Fr Rea’s healing tour began with an opening mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Lockridge Parish on Wednesday 16 May.
