The Catholic Archdiocese of Perth is preparing to celebrate National Vocations Awareness Week 2025, running from Sunday 3 August to Sunday 10 August — a week dedicated to inviting all Catholics to reflect on God’s call in their lives.
The week, promoted by Perth Vocations Office, encourages young people to explore the many ways they can serve the Church and the world through their vocation.
The annual initiative is part of a broader movement across Australia to foster a culture of discernment and openness to God’s plan in their lives, whether it be through priesthood, religious life, marriage, or single blessedness.
“God continues to call and remains faithful to His promises”
Despite the many challenges facing the Church today, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that vocations remain a gift rooted in hope and friendship with Christ.
“God continues to call and remains faithful to His promises,” he says, urging the Church to “create environments and forms of youth ministry imbued with the Gospel,” where vocations can be nurtured and flourish. Read more
He adds that friendship with Christ must be the spiritual foundation of any vocation.
“Only those who live in this friendship can proclaim with authenticity, console with compassion, and guide with wisdom.” Read more
This invitation to deeper encounters and discernment lies at the heart of Vocations Awareness Week.
“There is something for everyone”
Vocations Director Fr Joseph Laundy, encouraged everyone — especially young adults — to engage with the week’s offerings. “There’s something for everyone” he said.
Speaking to a group of young adults, Fr Joseph reiterated the week is not just about discerning the priesthood or religious life.
“Though that is a crucial focus — it’s about discovering for yourself, the unique call God has placed in each of your lives. Whether you are single, married, religious or discerning the priesthood, we want to walk with you,” Fr Joseph said.
“We invite all parishes, schools, families and individuals to come, pray, listen, and draw inspiration as a Church. God’s call is personal and unique — that’s exciting and it allows the Church to be enriched through everyone’s participation.”
