The Australian Catholic Anti-Slavery network is next week hosting a survivor of modern slavery.
In conjunction with the annual submission of Catholic Modern Slavery Statements, guest speaker, Moe Turaga will tell his personal story to advocate for responsible business practises to reduce the risks of modern slavery in Australia
Mr Turaga is a survivor of modern slavery in Australia, consultant to the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN) and Domus 8.7 Remediation Service Advisory Committee member.
Moe first shared his story at the parliamentary inquiry that led to Australia’s Modern Slavery Act.
Since then, he has become a key voice for survivors in conversations about Australia’s modern slavery response. He speaks regularly to corporate governance audiences.
In 2024, Moe received a commendation from the New South Wales Anti-slavery Commissioner.
Moe is actively engaged with vulnerable workers in horticulture, meat processing, hospitality and aged care including workers on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
