The work of MercyCare will be extended into five new Perth communities with the purchase of early learning centres from Acacia Hill Childcare.

Located in Ballajura, Bassendean, Bennett Springs, Kelmscott and Landsdale, the centres will become MercyCare Early Learning Centres from 27 July, joining those already operating in Bedford, Heathridge, Thornlie, Seville Grove and Wembley.

MercyCare Interim CEO David Holden said the strategic acquisition would see the Catholic not-for-profit group, that was founded by the Sisters of Mercy who established themselves in WA more than 170 years ago, become the sixth largest provider of child care services in Perth.

The opening later this year of MercyCare’s newest child care centre, currently under construction at Ellenbrook, would see it providing a total of 864 high quality early education places across the Perth metropolitan area.

“The acquisition is a key step forward in achieving our strategic plan to grow, develop and integrate child care services. We will seek further opportunities in this sector,” Mr Holden said.

MercyCare provides a wide range of services to the elderly, children and families, youth and asylum seekers and has a Vision for people and communities to thrive, so continuing the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy.

“This move represents meaningful growth and expansion of the services and programs we deliver in Western Australia which also include out of home care, refuge accommodation for young mothers and their babies, and counselling. It enhances MercyCare’s ability to further support children and families within the community,” Mr Holden said.

MercyCare’s Early Learning Services continue to meet the Education and Care National Quality Standards and are moving towards full accreditation from the Australian Childhood Foundation for Safeguarding Children.

“Our commitment to this means that MercyCare will create and maintain a child safe culture that protects children and young people from harm and is understood and put into action by all of our staff and volunteers.”
