A state of the art facility which was officially blessed at an event last week has been breaking down barriers for those seeking assistance from not-for-profit organisation MercyCare.
MercyCare’s Mirrabooka Centre on Brewer Place has been expanded and completely refurbished to provide 840 sqm of space dedicated to helping the local community.
The refurbishment was completed late last year, and was officially blessed by Bishop Donald Sproxton at an event on Friday 25 May.
MercyCare CEO Chris Hall said the project combined several MercyCare services, which were now all available in one welcoming, inclusive space.
“We wanted to create a space to provide the Mirrabooka community with access to contemporary services and programs that offered integrated supports and opportunities for diverse groups,” he said.
“The end result is a space that has broken down physical barriers to increase communication and information sharing between staff, and referrals between programs, to lead to better outcomes for service users.
“Not only has this enabled better support for the community, but we have also been able to bring the community together in this centre by offering courses, classes and practical assistance for tasks such as managing tenancy and securing employment.”
The centre offers a wide range of services, including employment support for culturally and linguistically diverse job seekers, English conversation classes and citizenship courses.
The centre also offers over 35 different training classes, courses and workshops each week, ranging from understanding learner driving permit tests to basic computer skills to arts and crafts.
The refurbishment has provided service users with access to computer hubs, larger flexible training rooms and private comfortable consultation rooms.
In addition, new open plan offices, collaboration spaces, interview rooms, meeting rooms and staff breakout spaces enable the team of MercyCare employees and volunteers to support a diverse range of service users.
