Residents at Mercy Place, Mandurah participated in a morning poppy-making event at Lakelands Library to produce dozens of handcrafted poppies on 15 October.
The poppies made will be sent overseas to the Somme Battlefields in France and placed at the graves and memorials to commemorate the many service people who died in the World Wars on Remembrance Day, 11 November.
The staff are the first to admit that their senior residents love getting involved with craft projects – mainly if they contribute to their local community.

Mercy Place Mandurah Service Manager Christina Venables said the residents are a wonderful, caring and sharing group who offer each other support, advice and encouragement.
Ms Venables said the group is always keen to participate in community projects.
“Our residents have been creating the most wonderful handmade poppies in conjunction with staff and volunteers at Lakelands Library, which will ultimately be taken to France in early November,” Ms Venables said.
“The ladies involved have a huge commitment to the importance and relevance of Remembrance Day.
“We are focused on enriching the lives of those who choose to live with us, and supporting them to participate in activities that give their lives pleasure and meaning,” she added.

The residents enjoyed morning tea as well as meeting other community members during the session.
Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Health is a Catholic not-for-profit provider of care and grounded in a 2000-year tradition of caring for those in need.
The organisation provides health and aged care services throughout Australia.
