Southern Cross Care was a worthy recipient of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KBCCI) Community Organisation Not for Profit award at the Goldfields Business Awards, held on 7 November 2020.

The aged care provider operates the Victoria Park Nursing Home and Hostel in Kalgoorlie. The ethos of the team who provide care to the 51 residents of the home is to treat them like family. This was recognised by the judges of the awards.

“Southern Cross Care provides personalised care to all residents and treats them like family. The team culture is overwhelmingly positive, and it’s led from the top down. Nothing is too much for this team and the respect they have for one another and residents in enviable. Congratulations on receiving this award.”

Moving from home into residential care is a big decision, made easier when you have a team committed to enabling residents to enjoy a family-like environment.

At the heart of the home is facility manager Cheryl Hahn, who has been a part of the community for four years and leads the Kalgoorlie team of nurses, volunteers and permanent staff.

Cheryl said the team were humbled by winning the award, especially given the quality of the other nominees.

“We all work very, very hard to give the residents the best life we possibly can in their last days,” she said.

“We’ve come away from this with a sense of pride and achievement, the award is a testament to how much we care.  The award is only possible because of our wonderful residents, it is a privilege to care for Kalgoorlie’s elderly.”
