Taking their name from the Latin phrase ‘Christus Rex’ or ‘Christ the King’, the band has now travelled to more than 21 countries across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States.

Borne out of youth missionary movement Jesus Youth, the band formed in India in the late 1980s and early 90s, with a variety of musical influences ranging from modern pop to ethnic Indian music.

Event organiser, Bobby Jacob said the Rexband sees every tour as a missionary journey to present and promote a brand of music that ‘inspires, gives witness to, and above all expresses the joy that Jesus brings’.

“It is a time for musicians to set aside the concerns of work, family and home and immerse themselves in communicating their personal experiences of Jesus powerfully.

“They do this through music, dances, worship and personal testimonies,” he explained.

Mr Jacob added that St Pope John Paul’s vision of embracing the youth of the world ‘kindled the imagination of the band’.

“Rexband, which grew through its youth ministry in the Jesus Youth movement, had always been strong on contemporary music, choreography, theatre and such youthful dynamics.

“Besides, a large percentage of the band’s audience were always young people. Thus the band’s focus on youth was clearly inspired by the call of the Church,” he said.

“Here in Perth and Australia, the band aims to reach out to the different communities of this land and hopes to encourage audiences, especially the youth to experience Jesus through contemporary music.

“In addition, Rexband seeks to bear witness to the powerful encounter with Jesus through the life of each of its band member,” he concluded.

Having already performed in Canberra and Melbourne, Rexband will continue touring across Australia with events to be held in Darwin, Sydney and Adelaide.
