Identitywa has entered a new chapter in its proud, almost 50-year journey with the commissioning of its new business name, directors and executive team.
The evolution from Identitywa Inc. to Identitywa Disability Services Limited ensures people with disabilities will continue to receive the highest standard of support grounded in Catholic mission and values.
The commissioning ceremony formed part of a special liturgical celebration held at St Brigid’s Church in Northbridge near the end of last year.
Led by Fr Mark Rucci, the celebration brought together board members, staff and supporters to mark the official launch of Identitywa as an incorporated entity.
During the ceremony, Fr Rucci blessed the newly appointed leaders, commissioning them for service as they begin their stewardship of the organisation.
In a deeply symbolic moment, each member of the leadership team presented a personal object representing the gifts, values and perspectives they bring to their role.
The symbols aimed to reflect the diversity and unity of the team, underscoring Identitywa’s commitment to inclusive, person-centred care.
Following the liturgy, the Board of Identitywa Disability Services Limited convened for its inaugural Annual General Meeting, signalling the beginning of a new governance era.
Strategic discussions focused on building on the organisation’s strong legacy while embracing innovation, growth and contemporary best practice.
Board members reaffirmed their shared commitment to transparency, collaboration and continuous improvement, with a clear focus on expanding services, strengthening partnerships and ensuring the voices of people with disability and their families remain central to decision-making.
Chief Executive Officer Marina Re reflected on the organisation’s origins, noting that Identitywa was founded nearly five decades ago by parents seeking a better life for their children.
“We honour this history and commit to building on this remarkable foundation,” Marina said.
“Identitywa Disability Services Limited will continue to grow and evolve while remaining faithful to the values that shaped us. I look forward to the next stage of this shared journey.”
While its name and structure have evolved, Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB remains the sole member of Identitywa Disability Services Limited, providing continuity of mission and ensuring the agency remains firmly rooted in its Catholic identity.
To further strengthen this foundation, a new committee is being established to ensure the Catholic ethos and history of Identitywa continue to guide its work and decision-making into the future.
The agency’s renewed structure reflects a deep understanding of the evolving needs of individuals and families and a commitment to creating inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.
