The Fremantle Chamber Orchestra (FCO), well known across the Archdiocese for their sterling performances, will next month perform at St Patrick’s Basilica, the Redemptorist Monastery North Perth, in addition to three more concerts in Armadale and Perth.

FCO Director Hans Hug highlighted the Orchestra has just concluded their first performance in country Western Australia at St Francis Xavier Cathedral Geraldton on 24 September.

“We are thrilled to have performed a special program that appealed to people of all ages and from all walks of life,” Mr Hug said.

The orchestra will perform nearly the same program for the first time in Armadale, at the District Hall, on Saturday 2 October at 3pm, conducted by Concert Master Rachael Aquilina.

“We carefully crafted a program of the most beautiful tunes including Bach’s eternal Air on G and the love-duet Largo from his Double Concerto as well as Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso RV578,” Mr Hug shared.

“We will also perform Mozart’s magic Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and charming Divertimento K136, Massenet’s romantic Meditation, Brahms’ fiery Hungarian Dance 5, Britten’s Sarabande from his Simple Symphony and Piazzolla’s Oblivion all enrich this ‘Music to love’”.

Finally, the FCO will return to St Patricks Basilica in Fremantle on Saturday 16 October at 3pm for a concert featuring Bach, Koželuch and Mozart, conducted by John Keene, with violinist Emily Leung and Michael Hodgkins on clarinet – with a repeat performance the next night (Sunday 17 October at 3pm) at the Redemptorist Monastery, North Perth.

“We are really happy to perform at the Basilica of St Patrick and Redemptorist Monastery again,” Mr Hug said.

“Both are beautiful spaces, have great acoustics and, as churches, lend themselves to not only prayer and services but also the celebration of live music.”

The FCO provides performance experience to young professional musicians, advanced University of Western Australia and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts students, West Australian Symphony Orchestra casuals, and freelancers, and aims to enrich a broad audience through classical music.

Like many arts organisations, the orchestra lost major sponsors due to the impact of COVID on performances and Mr Hug highlighted the fact that eight new ensembles compete for the same audience here in WA.

“FCO is an incorporated not-for-profit so all donations are 100 per cent tax deductible – if you would like to give, please contact us today.”

Tickets for the concerts are available either at the door (cash or card) or via Ticketek at https://premier.ticketek.com.au/search/SearchResults.aspx?k=FCO
