The opportunity to understand and develop your faith is once again on offer at the Maranatha Centre for Adult Faith Formation, with Term 3 courses about to commence.
The Maranatha Centre is the adult faith education agency of the Archdiocese of Perth, offering short daytime, evening and Sunday afternoon courses at various locations around Perth.
User-friendly online courses are also available, making adult faith enrichment accessible to people who are unable to attend courses in person – such as those in rural parts of the Archdiocese.
Topics for Term 3 include Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Spirituality, Eastern Catholicism, Introduction to Islam, the Mystery of Suffering, and Jesus and the Church.
There are no exams or assignments, and the courses are open to all people interested in exploring questions of faith and meaning.
Director of the Maranatha Centre, Dr Michelle Jones, spoke to the eRecord about the importance of adult faith formation.
“We need to make sure that we never have God all sewn up,” Dr Jones said.
“God isn’t a puppet we can manipulate, but a mystery of love who will always be greater than our knowledge.
“Paradoxically, reaching this place of ‘unknowing’ means doing what we can to educate ourselves about our faith.
“The more we prayerfully expose ourselves to Scripture, Spirituality, Theology, Liturgy and so on, the more we’ll surrender to our infinite God with childlike trust.”
