To celebrate 2024 Volunteer Week, Palms Australia will be bringing together two Palms returnees, John and Annette, to talk about their experiences of Palms Global Mission Program.

Originally set up as the Paulian Association in 1956, Palms Australia provides the opportunity for skilled Australians who wish to engage in global mission to engage in mutual exchange via long term placements in countries in the Pacific, Africa and Asia.

This years’ theme Something for Everyone, speaks directly to the variety of opportunities offered by Palms to volunteer in an overseas host community.

“It doesn’t matter what sector you come from – teaching, nursing and medicine, the trades…’ said Soraya Kassim, Palms Executive Director.

“It is worth making contact with us to express interest in Palms, because we receive new requests all the time and a placement will surely be found.”

Palms participant, Guida Cabrita, who mentored local teachers in Bedois, Timor-Leste from 2024-2015, offered her advice for those interested in doing a Palms overseas placement.

“Be approachable and listen and be ready to model and share what you know because you never know where it could go.”

If you are interested in sharing your skills with a requesting overseas community, come along to the Palms Discovery Information Session to hear more about John and Annette’s experience and see if there is something for you.
