Catholic Homes brought flavour, fun and friendly competition to its recent Nutrition and Hydration Week celebrations with a vibrant MasterChef-style cooking competition involving residents and staff.
Using the popular TV show’s mystery box challenge as inspiration, teams were pitted against each other with the underlying message of the important role that food, connection and shared experiences play in supporting wellbeing.
The competition fostered incredible teamwork, creativity and enthusiasm, with each team embracing the spirit of the day through amusing themes and impressive dishes.

Competing as ‘The Aubergines’, the team from St Vincent’s Residential Care in Guildford took out the title of Best Chef, while ‘Simply the Zest’ from St Mary Glowrey took both runner-up and Best Table Setting honours.
The additional teams, all of whom deserve honourable mentions, comprised ‘The Whisk Takers’ (Castledare), ‘Holy Guacamole’ (Trinity) and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Archbishop Goody).
In addition to the cooking competition, the event featured a range of engaging activities including a nutrition presentation, smoothie demonstration, interactive food quizzes, and a shared lunch.
Catholic Homes Chief Executive Officer Darren Cutri said the event highlighted the important role food plays in both health and community connection.
“Nutrition and hydration are fundamental to the health and wellbeing of our residents, but food is also about enjoyment, connection and community,” he said.
“It was wonderful to see residents and staff come together, have fun, and showcase such creativity. Events like this highlight how meaningful dining experiences can enhance daily life.”
Catholic Homes’ Nutrition and Hydration Week promotes the importance of good nutrition and hydration in supporting health, independence and wellbeing.
