Three course groups of Acts 2 College of Mission and Evangelisation marked the completion of their courses with a final thanksgiving Mass on Wednesday 14 November.

Emeritus Archbishop Barry Hickey was present to celebrate the Mass for the Certificate IV in Catholic Ministry, Certificate IV in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, and Certificate III in Catholic Youth Ministry and Leadership students held at the college chapel.

The students took full responsibility in organising and participating in all parts of the mass, including setting the environment, proclaiming the Word, leading the music, and bringing up the gifts to the altar, towards completion of a unit of study on liturgy.

The Osborne Park College’s mission aims to form adults, young and old, to be missionary in their actions and words, so that by the end of their experience, they can form others to evangelise, while continuing to pursue their professional, academic, and family life.

Acts 2 College Principal Jane Borg said she was proud of how far the students have come and is looking forward to their graduation ceremony, which will take place at the end of February 2019.

“In the one or two years our students spend at Acts 2 College transforms each life as they delve into scriptures, their faith and how to take Christ to others within whatever ministry God calls them to follow,” Mrs Borg said.

“It’s exciting to see them grow in confidence as they minister to young people and old, in big groups or small, as well as in one-on-one conversations about faith.

“To be able to watch and guide them during that time as they travel through their personal faith journey is the most rewarding part for the staff including myself,” she added.

Student Regina Crothers proved that age was just a number when the 64-year-old teacher felt a spiritual need to learn and do more for the community, after attending a number of Catholic conferences.

She enrolled to obtain her Certificate IV in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care, a full-year course that was developed to provide students with the skills to work in pastoral care or in a school environment as chaplain.

“I knew I had the enthusiasm and skills to help, but I just needed to further enhance my religious knowledge in the areas of pastoral care.

“Seeing the course advertised in my parish bulletin confirmed this is what I needed to do, and I am so happy to have gain the knowledge and be able to share it with the community,” Ms Crothers said.

Ms Crothers encouraged more people to enrol in the courses offered by the college which include the Certificate II in Active Volunteering (CHC24015), Certificate III in Catholic Youth Ministry and Leadership (10601NAT), Certificate IV in Catholic Ministry (10602NAT), Certificate IV in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care (CHC42315), and Diploma of Catholic Youth Ministry (10603NAT).
