Spring has sprung at the Maranatha Centre for Adult Faith Formation! New life abounds, with Term Four courses about to commence, and a new Director – Dr Michelle Jones.
Dr Jones has been a presenter at Maranatha since 2009, after leaving her position as an associate lecturer at the University of Notre Dame Australia in order to pursue her doctorate in theology.
In August, she was appointed by Archbishop Costelloe as the Director of Maranatha, following the resignation of Sr Philomena Burrell.
“Sr Philomena poured so much of herself into Maranatha, so I feel privileged to be following in the wake of such generosity of spirit,” Dr Jones commented.
Dr Jones says she is looking forward to building on what has gone before her at Maranatha by offering new courses and developing the ways in which courses are delivered.
“There is much scope to develop our online presence, and to develop the opportunities for adult faith education for people in rural parts of the Archdiocese.
“We would also like to make our courses more accessible to people in parishes throughout Perth,” she said.
Dr Jones added that she is witnessing an increasing number of people who are hungry for faith enrichment and spiritual renewal,
“We want to make what Maranatha has to offer as accessible as possible,” she said.
For Term Four, Maranatha has evening, twilight, weekend and daytime courses on offer ranging in length from three weeks to eight weeks.
Course topics include Jesus and the Church, ecological conversion (just in time for the Pope’s new encyclical on this topic), Dorothy Day, the Infancy Narratives, Jewish festivals (with a Rabbi) and more.
