FIFTY years to the day of their wedding, Des and Barbara O’Sullivan of Hilton parish renewed their wedding vows on Mother’s Day in their parish church of Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Hilton. The jubilarians were joined by their children and grand-children. Fr Patrick Lim PP received the renewal of vows and Perth Vicar General Mgr Brian O’Loughlin presented a blessing acknowledgement from Archbishop Barry Hickey, paying tribute to the couple for their example of marriage and family life. On behalf of the Archdiocese he commended Des for his work in Catholic Education, especially as principal of St Norbert’s College, Queen’s Park and then as development officer for the infant Notre Dame University. Des then served as the foundation director of the Archdiocesan Professional Standards Resource Group, a work “requiring great prudence and discretion, which Des possesses in abundance, and so he was ideal for the position. Des has been an outstanding worker for the Church and could well be described as a great Church man”.
