Jesuit Father Jacques Dupuis said he found solace in reading the diary of Dominican theologian Yves Congar while the Jesuit’s own writings were under investigation by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Cardinal Congar, seen in an undated file photo, was censured by the Vatican in the 1950s. When he died in 1995 he was lauded as one of the century’s pioneering theologians.
