Western Australia’s oldest Catholic primary school last month celebrated their 120 year anniversary with a Gala Evening on 29 July.

The event saw more than 250 past students, staff and parishioners come together along with families and friends for the occasion, which also saw the unveiling of a School Heritage Room.

The event was attended by special guests including Emeritus Archbishop Barry Hickey, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and former and current Parish Priests of Sacred Heart, Fr Peter Bianchini and Fr Irek Czech, among other dignitaries.

Staff and parents of the school, together with the Sisters, displayed old photos and memorabilia, including an original habit, the school’s religious statues and display cases with examples of past pupils’ written work.

Sacred Heart Primary School’s Principal Tanya McGuire, said the evening presented a great opportunity for past and present students, staff, families and parishioners to reconnect after so many years.

“I was incredibly proud of the combined efforts of so many, who over many months, have worked very hard to ensure the evening was something special for our 120th Anniversary year.

“The School Hall was transformed into a beautiful venue with chandeliers and decorations,” she said.

“Our guests arrived and viewed the new Heritage Room, before moving through an avenue of lanterns and the School Choir’s rendition of our school song.”

The 120-year celebrations began earlier in the year with a Welcoming Family Mass at the school, followed by a vintage morning tea, with other activities also planned for the rest of the year.

A Founders Week will be celebrated in October involving re-enactments of the events during the foundation of the school, while an Art Auction and Exhibition is also planned for November.
