Iona Presentation College students being are encouraged to put their faith into action from a young age.

From being a kind person and a good friend, to helping those in need through food drives and support programmes.

“Learning how to give back is an important part of the curriculum at Iona. Giving time, treasure or talent to those in need,” said Katy Moore, Assistant Deputy Principal.

“Relationship building is such a valuable skill for the girls to develop and as part of their Faith in Action project, my Year 11 students chose to prepare a morning tea for the clients at St Patrick’s Community Support Centre.”

After preparing the food in their own time, the students spent the morning chatting with and serving food to clients at the St Pat’s Dining Hall.

“It was a very rewarding morning and an invaluable opportunity as we were able to interact with people who are facing unfortunate situations and hear their side of the story,” Niamh Osborne commented.

“Being able to provide morning tea to local community members in need was an extremely eye-opening experience and allowed us to understand how homeless people are actually living, but most importantly, gave us an opportunity to bond with them,” said Tessa Chapman.

Since 1972, St Patrick’s has worked to help those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless in Fremantle and the wider south west metropolitan region of Perth.

Their goal is to serve the community through giving holistic, supportive and quality care to those most in need through services such as emergency relief, housing, meals, welfare, education, recreation and health.

“We enjoyed the morning at St Pat’s so much, we’d love to make it a regular activity. We learn more about the homelessness crisis by actually getting out and talking to the people affected by it,” said Skye Whiteman.
