Did not our hearts burn within us as he talked to us on the road and explained the scriptures to us? (Luke 24:13-35).
The story of the Road to Emmaus was the inspiration for the sixty-two men who participated in this year’s Emmaus Walk facilitated by menALIVE, in conjunction with the Knights of the Southern Cross WA.
Participants joined parishioners at the Carmelite Convent in Nedlands for the pre-walk Mass at which Fr Gavin Gomez also provided the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.
Following Mass, the group set off on their twelve kilometre walk to St Mary’s Cathedral, a distance which participants noted mirrored that of the disciples on the Road to Emmaus in Luke’s gospel.
The presence of eleven father and son groups was particularly encouraging and provided a simple and authentic way for fathers to share their faith with their sons.
The walk also provided participants with an opportunity to make new connections and have meaningful conversations in a relaxed, informal environment.
On their arrival at St Mary’s Cathedral, participants were greeted with hot bacon and egg rolls straight off the barbecue and the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation.
menALIVE is a national Catholic ministry which aims to bring men together to renew their faith in God and encourage them to become active participants in the renewal of the Church.
