The University of Notre Dame Australia has acquired the vacant site next to its Broadway Sydney campus, located in the inner-city suburb of Chippendale, paving the way for strong long-term growth in the national tertiary education sector. Purchased at auction on 2 November, the 520m2 site is located at 142-152 Broadways. Vice Chancellor Professor Celia Hammond, said the acquisition of the site is an exciting step towards expanding UNDA’s presence within Sydney’s premier educational precinct. “The University will develop this site to further its strategic goal of providing students and staff with the highest quality teaching spaces and facilities,” she said.
In addition to being the ‘father’ of three monotheistic faiths – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – Abraham is also a model of the welcoming behaviour that we should show to others, including strangers and outsiders. This message was the focal point of Abraham Day, celebrated last week at the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA), with keynote speakers from each of the three communities: Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, Rabbi Dovid Freilich from Perth Hebrew Congregation, and Sheikh Muhammad Agherdien, Teacher at Langford Islamic College. The event, held on Thursday 14 September, carried the theme ‘Abraham: Welcoming and Standing Up for the Other’, and was the second Abraham Day hosted at UNDA, following its launch last year. Addressing attendees in the Drill Hall in Fremantle, Archbishop Costelloe said people of faith should challenge themselves to welcome others in a genuine and caring fashion. By Caroline Smith.

Former Western Australian Senator, the Hon Chris Ellison has this week been appointed as the new Chancellor of the University of Notre Dame Australia from January 2018. Former politician Michael L’Estrange AO has been appointed Deputy Chancellor from April 2018. Current UNDA Chancellor, Mr Peter Prendiville, who will step down from the position on 31 December 2017, said he is delighted with the appointments of Mr Ellison and Mr L’Estrange. “Both men are widely respected and bring with them a shared commitment to Notre Dame and a wealth of exceptional public, private and educational experience,” Mr Prendiville said. “It is this experience, underpinned by a passion for Notre Dame, that will prove vital in shaping the University…,” he said.
