The Archdiocese of Perth recently hosted a significant meeting of Vocations Directors from the Western and Central dioceses of Australia.
Coordinated by the Perth Vocations Office, the two-day gathering took place on 27 – 28 May 2024 at St Charles Seminary, thanks to the gracious invitation of the rector, Fr Francis Nguyen.
The event was spearheaded by Fr Geoff Aldous, who says that it was “an exercise of community building” between four parishes including Rockingham Our Lady of Lourdes, Kwinana St Vincent’s, Port Kennedy Saint Bernadette’s and Baldivis St Teresa of Calcutta.
In ordaining Jupiter Bin Justin, Gionata Pagani and Marco Ferraioli to the Order of the Diaconate, Thursday 23 May at St Mary’s Cathedral, Auxiliary Bishop Don Sproxton said the three men have responded to the best of their abilities, human and spiritual, to an invitation to follow the call of the Lord.
In his speech, the Holy Father underlined the importance of compassion and he encouraged everyone “to make this spirituality of fraternity grow, and to promote, through your diplomatic action, the role of multilateral bodies.”
Although ostensibly an actioner – and a snappy one at that – director David Leitch’s loose adaptation of the eponymous 1980s TV series has even more appeal as a toothsome romantic comedy.
Christian hope “is not an obstinacy we want to convince ourselves of, but it is a gift that comes directly from God,” Pope Francis has said.
It is a belief in the future “because Christ died and rose again and gave us his spirit.”
