Identitywa, an agency of the Archdiocese of Perth, is a leading disability support service addressing the critical need for housing in WA with an inclusive housing strategy for people living with disability.
Identitywa is committed to building a community where all people have access to support and services to live fulfilled lives. An essential aspect of these services is the provision of high-quality homes and Identitywa is addressing this through collaborative partnerships with quality developers and builders.
Identitywa CEO Marina Re said the organisation is excited to share its housing strategy initiative
“Which focusses on building contemporary accessible houses that have been designed and modified to accommodate the unique needs of people with disability whose wellbeing is at the centre of all we do,” Marina said.
There are currently seven houses at various stages of completion with over 20 additional houses in the pipeline.
The houses are located close to amenities and situated in convenient locations across the metropolitan area.
All homes are designed to promote independence and enhance quality of life.
Identitywa recognises the importance of accessibility and ageing in place and is addressing this with the inclusion of features such as master sized bedrooms with ensuites, spacious communal areas, wide doorways and corridors, as well as the integration of assistive technology and security features.
Michael Viney lives in an Identitywa house and his family was attracted to this fresh approach as they’ve been able to be actively involved in the construction of a new home for Michael so he can age in place comfortably. As owner builders, the Viney family have built Michael’s house as well as another three bedroom house, with one bedroom still available.
His mum Leonie said as a family, we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to build a beautiful new home for Michael.
“Knowing that he will be living in such a thoughtfully crafted environment brings us immense relief and joy. Michael deserves the same opportunities for independence and quality of life and this new home is a significant step towards ensuring his wellbeing.
“We are excited, proud and profoundly moved by the chance to provide him with a space where he can thrive.
“The house, with its north-facing living areas, spacious rooms and abundant natural light is designed to provide Michael with the comfort and accessibility he deserves. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has helped make this dream a reality,” Leonie concluded.
