Mercy College Koondoola has celebrated Religious Education Week at the end of Term Three in culmination with Mercy Day celebrations.
The secondary education college in Koondoola adopted the theme for 2019 of What Would Jesus Do?
Religious Education Head Elizabeth Williams told The Record that before we can ask the question what would Jesus do, we must ask ourselves whether we know Jesus.
“Knowing Jesus begins with learning about His life, teachings and scripture in the Bible,” Ms Williams said.
“The development of knowledge occurs in Religious Education classes however, students at Mercy College are further supported through the ministry life of the College to truly KNOW Jesus by developing a personal and spiritual relationship with Him,” she said.
Ms Williams went on to say that under the theme of WWJD? in Religious Education classes, students discussed moral dilemmas and through various activities played out scenarios that occur in life.
Seminarians from the Redemptoris Mater Seminary visited the College during the week and students were given the opportunity to ask questions about life as a seminarian and potential priest.
Other highlights of their visit were the Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR Religion and Life Lunch with the seminarians and the Staff and seminarians versus the Students Soccer game.
This year the winners’ cup went to the students despite the Staff and Seminarians skilful play.
Other events that occurred in Religious Education Week were a themed morning tea for staff, worship singing in the Quad which included a Staff rendition of “Oh Happy Day”, much to the delight of the students and quizzes through Pastoral Care Groups and lunch time activities.
