Residents, staff and guests at Castledare Village were greeted with a crowded reception as the facility’s’ 20th anniversary, celebrated on Tuesday 14 May.

The aged-care facility in Wilson is an extension of the Catholic Homes community, who reflected on the milestone with a morning tea, honouring their loyal community and remembering the past two decades of memories.

Noelene Wright, Castledare Village Facility Manager, welcomed guests and mentioned that the property has a long-winded history that goes beyond the 20-year celebration.

“This property was originally purchased in the late 1800s,” she explained.

“It’s been used as a school and an orphanage before becoming what we know it as today.

“And we are fortunate enough today, to have with us some of the original residents; including Hilda Polglase, Elinor Hollis, Ursula Sheridan, and Margaret Campbell.”

Bernadette Brady, Executive Manager Mission, also extended her own welcome to those who have taken part in running the facility and residents who have kept the spirit of the centre alive.

“Stories keep memories and traditions alive, challenge and inspire us to keep going into the future, even if that future isn’t known,” Ms Brady said.

“Our service today is simple and an opportunity to mark a milestone in the life of Catholic Homes and Castledare.”

Catholic Homes Chairman John Oglivie was also present for the occasion, reminiscing on the passing of Sunday 12 May, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday, a fitting occasion for the anniversary to coincide with.

“For two decades, the staff have been Good Shepherds to you, the residents of this facility,” he said.

“So to the staff, I extend many thanks to all you have done. Thank you for being Good Shepard’s, and may God Bless you all.”

A special moment came when Castledare resident, Mattie Menz expressed her fondness for the facility and the friendships it has brought into her life.

“Living in Castledare’s has many positive points – you are independent and I am happy here and I hope I can stay here as long as I can.”

Ms Brady closed the speeches with a prayer of thanks, dedicated toward the Castledare Village residents.
