A short documentary and original music video created by a group of Aranmore Catholic College students is set to feature on ABC iView during Refugee Week (14 – 20 June).

The multilingual students, from migrant and refugee backgrounds, attend Aranmore’s Intensive English Centre.

The films that celebrate friendship, family and resilience through storytelling and music were produced via a series of arts workshops facilitated under a partnership between the College, not-for-profit organisation Same Drum and Healthway.

Same Drum’s Rita Yousif – herself a former student of the Intensive English Centre – said the program provided young people with a powerful platform to share their stories in their own way.

“It creates a safe and creative space for young people to express who they are, connect with each other and work as a team,” she explained.

“The stories and music they’ve created reflect their strength, their cultures and their sense of belonging.”

Healthway CEO Colin Smith said the project highlighted the important role creativity plays in supporting young people’s wellbeing.

In the documentary, Live and Learn, a group of young women rebuilding their lives in Australia share powerful stories of courage, identity and hope. Through a series of interviews and an original soundtrack, the film explores themes of belonging and perseverance.

The music video, Rock Paper Scissors, is performed in multiple languages and delivers a unifying message about connection across cultures.

A Million Stories is the theme of Refugee Week 2026. Each story is unique. Each one is powerful. Together, they shape the Australia that we all call home.

The films will be screened on ABC iView from 12 June.
