
The Catholic bishops of Western Australia have appointed four new Commissioners to the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia (CECWA):
• Dr Marina Hogan PhD, MBA, BA (Hons)
• Mr Geoff Mills MEd (Leadership & Management), MEd (RE), BEd, Dip.Teach., Dip. RE
• Mr Justin Scanlan GAICD, CAANZ, MSc, BBS, MII
• Mr Timothy Shanahan BJuris, LLB, PSM, FAICD
Each Commissioner will serve an initial term of four years, commencing on 1 January 2026.
Mr Shanahan has been appointed as the Chair of CECWA starting from 27 January 2026.
CECWA governs the CEWA system and responsibilities include:
• Providing leadership for the betterment and quality of Catholic education in WesternAustralia.
• Directing the development of learning communities that fulfil the goals of Catholicschools as outlined in the Bishops’ Mandate letter.
• Developing, promulgating and evaluating Catholic school policy and programs.
• Providing governance and holding responsibility of Catholic schools and fulfilling itsobligations under the School Education Act.
The following Commissioners will conclude their appointments on 31 December 2025:
• Mr Wojciech Grzech
• Mr Peter Yensch
Outgoing chair Eva Skira AM will conclude her term as Chair and a Commissioner on 26 January 2026.
Catholic Education WA Executive Director Annette Morey said: “I welcome the appointment of Marina, Geoff, Justin and Tim as Commissioners. I look forward to working with them to deliver on the Bishops’ Mandate, and provide families across WA with the choice of a quality, affordable, faith-based education.
“On behalf of CEWA’s Executive Leadership Team and our school leaders I want to thank Eva, Wojciech, and Peter for their service to Catholic education and the wisdom they have brought in their roles. I wish them well in their next venture.”
Mr Shanahan said: “I am pleased and excited by the opportunity to lead the Catholic Education Commission. I am looking forward to contributing to the advancement of Catholic education in WA and building on the great work done by previous stewards of the system.”
