On a night filled with sacred symbolism and profound spiritual renewal, the Catholic community of Kalgoorlie came together to celebrate the Sacred Paschal Triduum, the heart of the Easter liturgical season.

The celebrations were led by Fr Errol Lobo, who also marked a personal milestone — his first anniversary of priestly ordination.

The Easter Vigil, held on the evening of 19 April at St John Vianney Church in Kambalda, was the spiritual high point of the Triduum.

In his homily, Fr Errol reflected on the central mystery of the Christian faith: the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. “Had Christ not risen,” he said, “we would be foolish to not live by the standards of this world.” But, he continued, “Christ has in fact risen — He has burst the prison-bars of death and won us His indestructible new life. He has shattered the night to bring His endless day.”

Fr Errol emphasised that Christ’s death and resurrection are not merely events to be commemorated, but a living pattern for every Christian to follow. “They confront us, each in our own way, with the decision that determines our eternal destiny: whether we will arrive at inexpressible joy or unfathomable sorrow, whether we have chosen the Light or Darkness, whether we have chosen to live according to the patterns of this age or the wisdom of the cross.”

He urged the faithful to once again turn their hearts to Christ, “the one Morning Star who never sets,” and to live as true Easter people. Concluding his homily with a heartfelt prayer, Fr Errol said, “Lord, bathe us in your redeeming light! Make us now and for all eternity an Easter people; a people from whom you will receive the song of eternal praise and thanksgiving: ‘Alleluia!’”
