The feast of Christ the King is this year set to be an exciting occasion for Perth youth once again.

Catholic Youth Ministry Perth is inviting all Perth youth and young adults to join in the celebration of Christ the King Youth Festival at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sunday 24 November 2024.

The Feast of Christ the King was originally instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 through the encyclical Quas Primas during a time of growing secularism, nationalism, and political upheaval.

By establishing the feast day, Pope Pius XI aimed to re-centre the hearts of the faithful on Christ’s universal kingship, reminding them that, no matter the worldly powers at play, Christ reigns as the ultimate ruler of all creation.

CYM Director Adam Phillips called on all Perth Catholic youth and young adults and their families to make the most of this special opportunity of evangelisation.

“The Feast of Christ the King stands as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of Christ’s love – and our youth and young adults of today need this more than ever,” Mr Phillips said.

“Our youth and young adults often need to be reminded of the unique place that Jesus should hold in their lives – and this can be that reminder,” he said.

The special day not only commemorates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe but is also an annual diocesan celebration, instigated by Pope Francis for World Youth Day around the world.

The free event will include Mass to celebrate youth and young adults in our Archdiocese along with a range of festival activities held on the Cathedral grounds.

There will be a special blessing for our youth and youth leaders during Mass and festivities to follow, including live music, expo stands, food trucks and various other activities.
