The Archdiocese of Perth is making a difference in the lives of young professionals by offering opportunities that foster growth and skill development.
One inspiring example is the story of Anish Rai, a recent IT / Information Governance graduate whose volunteering experience at the Archdiocese’s Archives and Information Governance Office (AIGO) played a crucial role in his career journey.
Anish, who completed his Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security) at TAFE, first connected with AIGO after meeting Odhran O’Brien, the Director of the office.
Inspired by the office’s mission to preserve important information and ensure governance, Anish saw an opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to a meaningful cause.
“Volunteering at the AIGO gave me the chance to build valuable skills in records management, governance, and data analysis,” Anish shared. “It wasn’t just about gaining professional experience but also about being part of something bigger that supports transparency and accountability.”
His time at the AIGO helped him develop hands-on knowledge that strengthened his resume and prepared him for his current role as an IT Desktop and Infrastructure Support Analyst at a shipping company. Anish credits his volunteer work with boosting his confidence and providing a solid foundation for his new position.
“The experience made it easier to transition into my current role, where I now apply the skills I learned in information management and governance,” he said.
Anish encourages other recent graduates to explore volunteer opportunities that align with their career goals, noting how beneficial they can be for professional growth.
“Volunteering opens doors, builds your network, and helps you gain practical skills,” he said.
“It’s a rewarding experience, and I’m grateful for the support I received from Odhran and the team at AIGO.”
In fostering an environment where individuals can learn, grow, and serve, the Archdiocese of Perth exemplifies the Church’s commitment to the dignity of the human person, solidarity, and the common good.
Through its implementation of Serving the Church in the Digital Age strategy, the Archdiocese is also uplifting the next generation of Information Governance professionals in its community, ensuring they not only thrive in their careers but also contribute meaningfully to the mission of the Church and society.
